[TriLUG] help linking netcat

I'm trying to make netcat on my RH Linux 8 system... the link fails with

tmp/ccloQmA4.o(.text+0x14fd): undefined reference to `res_init'


'res_init' is a standard part of libc, right?  Any idea whats the problem 
is?
