[TriLUG] Colors in VI (VIM)

OK. Probably a simple answer, but I'm tired and tired of looking at man and
info pages.

When I run vi/vim on a Cygwin SSH terminal, say to look at named zone files
or a shell script, vi will often use dark colors (dark blue, dark burgundy,
dark green) on a black background. Needless to say, this is hard to read for
any length of time.

What do I need to change to get vi to use a more reasonable palette of light
text colors on a black background?
