So doesn't the license of the software take precedence?  The GPL doesn't
require accurate documentation or the other things mentioned in the
above comment.  Though I agree with the cdrecord author that it does
make a lot of sense to update the documentation and indicate the reasons
for the change.  But it's not "required."

ianaGNUl but the gpl only addresses source rights and copyrights
(you give the first but keep the second)
Personally i think it SHOULD be required since if i am having a problem with
GNUFOO and the docs say i should find the .config as ~/.gnufoo then it should be their with that name not in /usr/bin/lib/common/fish/bone/GnuFoo.conf
