I've advocated using ext2 for /var/spool (or simply /var if you don't
partition off the queues). The article below addresses most of my
concerns - and shows you the proper way to tune your ext3 filesystem for
dealing with the behavior of a program like Postfix (or Sendmail).

Of course there are some bugs in the stock RH kernels that might cause
you problems if you follow the "data=journal" advice. So for now, it
still might be safest to keep those volumes as ext2.
