Linux suports IDE RAID in general, but the Promise support is pretty 
weak.  Some older chipsets are supported (and some Promise cards that 
are marketed as just IDE controllers can be forced into RAID mode) but 
anything from the last year or so (maybe more?) probably won't work.

 From what I understand, updated Promise support is coming, as one of 
the linux kernel driver developers finally got an NDA working with the 
Promise folks to get it built and into the kernel.
