[TriLUG] printer suggestion?

Welp, I'll put in my plug for old hardware. I grabbed an old HP LJ III (1991 mfg date) from the trashcan at work. It needed a set of pickup rollers, $50.00. Next, I was able to purchase a HP JetDirect from Jason T. at a HamFest <shameless plug> at a great price </shameless plug> and for the price of a new deskjet, or the price of my dads ink cartridges (all-in-one), I have a laser printer that is shared acrossed my network for ANY OS.
If you only need B/W, then you may want to look at this instead of a deskjet. I've found that for my printing needs, ink cartridges dry up before I use them up. Toner for a laser is just shaved black plastic (0.07 microns, smaller than a cigarette smoke particle, 0.20 microns) lasts longer. Even now, you can get DSL/Cable modem routers with a print server as a part of the router.
Granted at my job, I have to look at the TCO, total cost of ownership.
The nice thing about CUPS and LPR, I can get both to print to a jetdirect. If you choose networking the printer as a standalone, please stick with the HP JetDirect products. Much easier setup.
Just MHO,
Roy V.

The box said "Install Windows 2000 or better", so I installed LINUX!
