But that's the thing, there is no guarantee that you'll have a job 
tomorrow.

Employers shed employees without much care just for short term gain in 
their market value.  Employees jump ship at the first sign of higher 
dollar figures.  When my grandfather was running the family business, 
many of the people he hired got to celebrate their 25th year 
anniversary there.  Some stayed on from their after school job in high 
school all the way through retirement.  You just don't see that very 
often anymore, especially in IT.
