FYI, I have discovered a little more information on this issue.

Last night I was installing a new wireless firewall/gateway between
my existing Linux firewall/server and the cable modem, so I had my
cable modem off for a little while.  Later, after bringing everything
back online, I received e-mail to my RR account from my server (which
is running some mailing lists).  This was in direct contradiction to
my previous report.

My only explanation for this is that my IP address changed - and
RR must not be recognizing all dynamic IP-address blocks (even in
their own network) in their mail servers.  This could explain why
some people reported that it was working ok for them.
