Most of it is gleaned from reading the News articles on the case, but

Note that the outfit calling itself "SCO" is the organizational
successor to Caldera, NOT the original Santa Cruz Operation. That
company still exists, as Tarentella. What Caldera bought was not "SCO",
the company, but "the Unix business", a mix of rights, largely "30,000
contracts, with over 6,000 entities", enabling it to trade in UnixWare.
Other rights to this product and business, including patents, copyright,
and trademarks, are held by several other parties. Clear title is
confused.

Also, the company (or at least the CEO) is currently involved in two
similar cases (purchased IP and then sue), and has already won (ie.
settled out of court in a previous case).
