Joshua,

Since you are using redhat 9 check out the pam_console module [man 8 
pam_console]. I looked in /etc/pam.d/login to find out about this 
module. From the pam_console(8) man page I started looking at 
console.perms(5). If you are going to be logging in on the console then 
I think you can probably set up a file that will change the owner and 
permission on login/logout to suit your needs.

You might also be able to do it with other services like SSH too, but 
I'm assuming you'll have physical access when you need to use the pilot 
link tools.

Hope this is helpful, It's just a guess on my part. I've never tried it 
but I had heard of its existance so I figured I'd mention it.
