3com used to make little dialup to ethernet thingies.  once you're on
ethernet instead of a phone line, any of those little firewall
appliances will give up to go.

of course, you could avoid both appliances and use the built-in firewall
in xp...

another possibility is black ice.  it is cheap and good.
