I disagree somewhat...my mom for example, doesn't play anything more 
than Free Cell (albeit a nicer commercial version thats part of a 
software package that has a lot of card games in it) on her PC, and it 
*really* doesn't matter to her if her computer can play the latest 
Unreal or anything like that.

I think that it is possible for Windows to remain the prominent gaming 
platform, while more and more home users that don't need that can use 
Linux because in a lot of other things, it works better.

In fact, in the near future, she's probably going to buy a Mac for 2 
reasons: 1) Her Compaq (an 866 MHz K6 machine) is getting slow running 
Win98 (even after reinstalling Windows and upgrading the RAM, its still 
slow and boots about 1/3 of the time on the first try) and 2) a Mac is, 
for her, the perfect computer, its easy to use, stable, and can run the 
exact same card game software she's already got.

ps: I have tried to get her to let my at least set up her computer to 
dual boot, heck, I've even got a spare HD i could use, but she's averse 
to Linux because if something goes wrong, It'll take me coming back 
home to get it running again whereas with, say, a new Mac, she can 
probably just get it working with me on the phone (not trying to relay 
complex command line instructions, just simple ones like "fsck -y" and 
"shutdown -r now") or by calling the included tech support (from Apple 
or MacWarehouse).
