Under RedHat 8 I was unable to mount Mac HFS disks.  When I dug into the 
problem, it appeared that the HFS driver had not been maintained and was no 
longer compatible with the kernel.  I haven't tried it under RH9 to see if 
the situation has got any better.

Depending on what the camera used for storage, it may be possible to 
retrieve the pictures from there.  There are several apps for Windows that 
let you recover pictures from flash media.  A quick Google found:

as one example.  This only works if he hasn't overwritten the cards with 
more photos, though.
