  We are recruiting for two new positions to further enhance support for
research computing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The focus of one position is code optimization and parallelization. The
primary responsibility of the second position is to develop and teach
training courses on specific computational applications, parallel code
development and testing, checkpointing, and other aspects of our

Research Computing Associate for High Performance Computing

Position Description:

Research Computing Associate for High Performance Computing will provide
expertise for current and future high performance computing code
optimization, parallelization and porting.

This position will work closely with faculty and other University
researchers to determine the appropriate architecture for each
application and will then assist with porting and tuning applications
for optimal performance on the chosen platform.

In addition to supporting the porting and optimization of researchers
codes, this position will help identify and analyze codes to be used for
benchmarking and research of high performance computing resources.

Education Required:

Position Requires a M.S. or Ph.D in computer science or related
computational science discipline and demonstrated hands-on expertise and
high performance programming experience with MPICH, OpenMP, Fortran and
C++.

Experience Required:

Experience in performance evaluation of both distributed and shared
parallel memory architectures is highly desired as is experience with
parallel scientific simulation codes and writing applications for
parallel computers. Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent oral and
written communications skills and demonstrated organizational skills are
required, along with strong personal motivation and a proven ability to
work in a team environment.

High Performance Computing Instructor

Position Description:

The High Performance Computing Instructor will determine course content,
develop and teach introductory classes about the UNC-Chapel Hill high
performance computing environment and how to use it, parallel
programming, scientific applications, and specialized coding and
performance analysis for faculty and their research teams.

Within ATN, the Academic Computing Systems Division provides the
infrastructure and support for the research computing, data management
and storage, messaging, web and enterprise backup and recovery needs of
the University community.

The High Performance Computing Instructor will develop course materials
for computational science techniques. These materials will be used to
design on-line tutorials as well as hands-on workshops and courses for
researchers with computationally intensive problems.

Education Required:
