I don't think msec is kernel based.  You can run it with the
"secure" kernels mandrake provides (which include some very nice
patches from a security standpoint), but you can also use it with
any other kernel you want to.  Iirc, it's just python code that runs
out of cron every few minutes to check on things.

That's a very good question.  There's the Mandrake Corporate Club,
but that's $2500/year.  They mention that "Interested universities
and schools are invited to contact us directly in order to receive
a more specific proposition better suited to their needs."  I wonder
if that would apply to LUGs too.
