whadaya mean start emerging?  it is there.  it works.  it works well.  when
i started out w/ rh v4.2, i couldn't even get a nic to work (i still
consider myself a linux beginner and might always...no dissertation on the
meaning of eth0, please).

w/ rh-9, no problem using linux on the desktop or recommending it to a
customer for most all computing tasks one may choose.

Well, it seems to me that for the last 10 years linux has been getting
to the point where the underlying stuff was stable enough for a desktop
to start emerging.  And, what do you know, that's been happening.
