Woops.. messed up my last post ...

This linux box is an old e-machines one.. CD ROM is samsung .. works off an IDE controller.. so I dont know if it is SCSI ..

as for NFS or FTP installs.. I am not sure if I can do it from home .. my other box is an XP-Home .. which I use to get to the internet using an ADSL modem .. the linux box also treats that XP-Home box as its gateway to get to the internet ...

Unfortunately, I am not able to get any reliable drivers for the ADSL USB modem on linux... else I would have ditched MS long ago

any suggestions on how to get around this one?

Thanks again in advance

That happens to me all the time on Compaq's. In my case I'm fairly
certain that it is the scsi CD-rom (anaconda needs drivers for the
controller added). No worries though, if your problem is the same, you
can install via ftp or nfs, and the full install has no problems with
the scsi CD-rom.

I have the disks for RH9 loaded on a local server so I do my installs
via NFS - it's actually a *lot* faster than installing from the CD's.
