Honestly, if it were available, I think that many companies would jump on 
it.

But because of that, Microsoft will never release such a "killer app";  it 
would take a huge chunk out of their dominance of the desktop OS market.

In a different timeline this could have happened if their monopoly trial 
had ended differently and the Gummint ended up splitting Microsoft up into 
Baby Bills (one for Operating Systems, one for application software, etc).
