[TriLUG] Creating a new partition

My laptop has /dev/hda1 (windoz), /dev/hda5 (Linux), and /dev/hda6
(Linux swap), and 20GB unpartitioned.

knoppix at edison:~$ cat /proc/partitions
major minor  #blocks  name

  3     0   58605120 hda
  3     1   12610993 hda1
  3     2          1 hda2
  3     5   19535008 hda5
  3     6     497983 hda6

I want to create a FAT32 partition in the unpartitioned part of the
disk.

I though I'd use fdisk but I get this:

knoppix at edison:~$ fdisk /dev/hda

Unable to open /dev/hda

Googling is not helping much.  Any hint appreciated. Thanks.
