Yum works great.  Here's my yum.conf file that allowed me to update 
Fedora Core, but I've only tried Core 1:

debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
pkgpolicy=newest
distroverpkg=fedora
tolerant=1
exactarch=1
exclude=kernel-source*,kernel*
