A few weeks ago someone was asking about samba mounting (or was it rsync-ing)
from/to a windows machine and getting the file permissions correct. Might want
to check out kernel 2.4.25:
SMB file system support (to mount Windows shares etc.) (CONFIG_SMB_FS) [M/n/y/?]
Use a default NLS (CONFIG_SMB_NLS_DEFAULT) [Y/n/?]
Default Remote NLS Option (CONFIG_SMB_NLS_REMOTE) [cp437]
Enable Unix Extensions (CONFIG_SMB_UNIX) [N/y/?] (NEW) ?
CONFIG_SMB_UNIX:
Enabling this will make smbfs use the CIFS Unix Extensions if
supported by the server. These extensions allows use of unix user
ids, permissions, file modes, symlinks, etc that normally do not
work on smbfs.
Samba 3.0 servers supports these extensions.
If you don't know what all this is about, it is safe to say Y.
Enable Unix Extensions (CONFIG_SMB_UNIX) [N/y/?] (NEW)
