[TriLUG] Stopping FireFox/Mozilla Software Install Request

I wonder if anyone out there using FireFox or Mozilla knows how to keep the
browser from poping up a request to install Flash or other such annoyances?
When I go to the local News & Observer site it keeps wanting to install flash.
The site apparently has a 60 second refresh so it keeps poping up.

I would love to know a way to totally disable software install requests from
any mozilla based browser so I can stop being bothered with it.

Anyone know of a way to stop the maddness?
