First make sure you have something like this in your
/boot/grub/grub.conf file:

kernel /vmlinuz-kernel.version ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi

The hdc=ide-scsi is the key part and you will need to change it to
hda=ide-scsi for your situation if your cdrom is the first IDE device.
