[TriLUG] SuSE newbie: dhcp only gets IP address

Have you tried checking the config with YaST?

Yast / Network Devices / Network Card

If it already recognized the network card, it should be listed under "Already
Configured Devices," eg., "RealTek RT8139 Configured as eth0 with DHCP."

If it has this config, then my guess is you are not connecting to your DHCP
server and obtaining a lease with DNS server assignments.  I'm skeptical of
shelling out in SuSE and looking at config files before trying all avenues
with YaST first.  There may be distro-specific ways of writing the config
files.
