Can you bring it up in Run Level 3 (command line mode, 
rather than Run Level 5 which is GUI mode). If it runs fine in RL 3
then you can play with Xconfigurator and get X working with all the
hardware. 

A quick scan of Google shows that the Dell Dimension 8300 installs very
nicely with some earlier versions of Red Hat.  You might want to install
an earlier version first and see all the drivers etc that are used -
then upgrade.
