Nah.  Don't wait.  I've been wanting to get into driver development for 
a while.  If you're willing to fund it (at a drastically reduced rate 
while I learn the ropes) and provide hardware, I'd be happy to work on 
it.  USB interfaces are supposed to be almost as easy as Serial to program.
