The Wake Tech stuff might be useful, I dunno.  You didn't say anything
about the guy's background to this point.  The best way to get into
network security is experience.  Start out as a sysadmin and work in
more and more security responsibilities.  Your friend may find it
difficult to jump directly into security without experience, even with
the Wake Tech stuff.

Then again, what do I know? ;)
