[TriLUG] Samba problem

Ok, let's try something other than politics.
Trying to set up a new Samba server on a FC2 box.
Created the following share:
[vol1]
comment = S
path = /samba_vol1
read only = No
force group = smbfile
dos filetimes = True
dos filetime resolution = True
force create mode = 0660
force directory mode = 0770
the directory it points at is set up as follows:
drwxrwsr-x 4 root smbfile 4096 Oct 7 14:40 samba_vol1
And the windows clients are happy. They can create and delete files and
directories at any level.
But the Linux users attaching with smbmount cannot create files except at
the root! They get a 'permission denied' error if they try to create
files in subdirectories.
The Samba server is acting as a domain member, with winbind in use.
Any Samba masters out there? This stuff worked fine in Samba 2.x...

because if there be one he must approve of the
homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear.
