for someone with your background I suggest Cisco Pix Firewalls by Richard A.
Deal
published by McGraw Hill/Osborne
The book is at an intermediate level. It won't bore you with too much in
the way of general concepts. It also aims you toward practical
implementation examples instead of the minutia of Cisco-speak.

who can recommend books to learn the above? i understand networks,
netmasks, routing, etc., and have twiddled with ipchains/iptables on a
couple of occasions. i really want to learn about the Cisco
