TriLUG LaTeX folks:
A friend of mine is finishing his thesis at State and asked if I could
recommend a LateX intro/reference book for tweaking some things. I've
used DocBook a couple times, but not LaTeX, so I pose his question to
the group.

Here's his original email:

Tim,

I was wondering, if you could give a recommendation for a good LaTeX
intro/reference book. I write with Scientific Word, which is a LaTeX
user interface, but sometimes I have to modify the files by hand and
  my syntax knowledge sucks. Thanks.
