I also had good experiences with Earthlink, although it's been a while.
I used to be a nandonet subscriber back when the Raleigh News and
Observer was an ISP. Then Mindspring bought nandonet. I switched to
DSL when it became available. Then Mindspring bought Earthlink, and
because they liked that name better used Earthlink for the merged
company. I can' t recall a problem.
The only reason I switched was because I moved to Heritage Wake Forest
a couple of years ago, and CT Communications has the phone contract
here and has a nice bundled DSL package. CT provides the link, but
they then use vnet which provides the mail and news servers and the
like. I did have a problem here, and the CT guys did some
troubleshooting on the DSL modem, but when the problem turned out to
be deeper, involving routing issues, they turned me over to the
"internet department" which I suspect was really vnet.
