[TriLUG] kde troubles

Ok, Heres one for all you kde experts out there

I have a FC3 box and using apt I upgraded kde 3.3.2-1.2.3.kde from the 
kde-redhat repository

install went fine... just now when I login all I get is a small terminal 
window where I have to type startkde to get kde to invoke...

what gives... I have check xinitrc and Xclients which have the startkde 
command in it...

Has anyone else seen this and where do I start to fix it....
