Under Fedora core 3 the K3B app burns them ok with my NEC burner.

That said, I don't think it's worth it.

Some things to consider: 

DL blanks only hold around 7.95G despite the 8.5G claimed capacity

DL blanks are expensive.  Like $10 each expensive.

Compatibility with other DVD readers is iffy.  My 2-month-old Toshiba CDRW/DVD 
won't read my burned DVD-DL discs, but I've got an ancient DVD drive that will.

Overall, unless you've got a compelling need for 7.95G on one disc, just burn 
two cheap single-layer DVD's.
