I just grabbed the (executable, not source) tarball and went with it.

Tripwire's binaries are statically linked (for paranoia), and it has its
own ideas about where config files etc. are (unless you supply all their
locations on the command line, which I do, via a one-line shell script),
so it ought to be nice and distro-agnostic. 

It works fine for me on Debian Woody, anyways.
