capable Unix/Linux Systems Manager/Programmer
WANTED: Sr Systems Manager/Programmer
LOCATION: Beautiful academic setting: ISDS, the
Institute of Statistics and Decision Sciences,
Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USA
STARTING DATE: June 1, 2005 (negotiable)
ISDS is seeking a talented and motivated individual to work as
departmental computer Senior Systems Manager/Programmer in support of
statistical and computational research, teaching and administrative
projects. The principal responsibility of this position will be to
maintain and improve the ISDS network and computing environment, which
currently consists of about 50 Linux workstations (x86/x86_64) and
related servers, a dozen Windows 2000/XP machines, a 1/2 Tb RAID
storage system backed up by an LTO changer, and several networked
PostScript printers. Ongoing expansion includes multiple parallel
high-performance computing engines supporting several research
programs.
The Senior Systems Manager/Programmer will participate as a member of
the Arts & Sciences Information Science and Technology (A&SIST)
community, which shares ideas among peers and which encourages,
promotes, and facilitates professional development, and will
coordinate ISDS computing environment with the high-performance
computing environment of Duke's CSEM facility (see

This full-time position is available beginning June 1, 2005, or as soon
as possible thereafter, with a full and attractive fringe benefits

professional advancement. Salary is negotiable and will be very

Requires a BS/BA or greater in Computer Science or in a scientific or
engineering field (MS degree preferred) and one or more years of Unix
