Batbox is fun to play with and a relatively harmless way to play, but
persistence is impossible -- so don't expect to do much but play with it.

If buying new hardware, definitely get the WRT54GS (with Speedboost) -
bigger CPU and more memory for nominally higher price. 

Look at OpenWRT for an alternative firmware to get serious about hacking
with...

And don't believe a word that Greg Brown says.  Rumor has it he's "using"
again...
