Folks,
Normally, I am very happy working in my Debian-like environments, but
last week encountered a problem that doesn't seem fixable. So, of
course, I am turning to you all to fix it!
While building a new system from the ruins of the old one ( power
failure during that storm last Tuesday, UPS ran out, dirty power, etc.,
etc., you know the tale ) I ran into a package that won't install, won't
remove, won't "fix", and is blocking everything else.
The wonderful package is "frozen-bubble-data" and I REALLY don't need
it!
When I try and remove it:
(Reading database ... 93959 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing frozen-bubble ...
dpkg: error processing frozen-bubble-data (--remove):
Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should
reinstall it before attempting a removal.
Errors were encountered while processing:
frozen-bubble-data
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
When I try to install it:
Selecting previously deselected package frozen-bubble-data.
(Reading database ... 93938 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace frozen-bubble-data 1.0.0-4 (using
.../frozen-bubble-data_1.0.0-6_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement frozen-bubble-data ...
mv: cannot stat `/usr/games/frozen-bubble.wav': No such file or
directory
dpkg: warning - old post-removal script returned error exit status 1
dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/frozen-bubble-data_1.0.0-6_all.deb (--unpack):
there is no script in the new version of the package - giving up
preinst called with unknown argument `abort-upgrade'
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/frozen-bubble-data_1.0.0-6_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
I tried to use the "dpkg --get and --set-selections" to try and remove
those packages from the database, but no go.
I have tried "apt -f install" but I get the same answer as above.
Anybody got any bright ideas?
TIA,
Brian
