Triluggers,

All right, nominations are final and were getting closer to election
time so it's probably time for me to come clean. For those of you who
might of missed it, the candidate bio I sent from 4/29 was a copy of
Dave Matusiak's from last fall(used with permission of course). I was
curious to see if anyone would catch this (if they did they haven't
said so).

In any case sending a joke to the list is one, thing, letting that
joke remain is another. Now that the time to elections is closer I
thought I would set the situation straight. I may have a weird sense
of humor, but I do have integrity and would not want to be elected
based upon false pretenses. Hopefully you all will see that I am
committed to serving Trilug and will not hold the joke against me. If
you have found my joke in bad taste, then I am sorry and hopefully
after reading the rest of this you will realize that I am serious and
committed.

A little bit of background on me.

For the last 4 years I have been a Systems Administrator for a local
Raleigh company. When I was hired the company had a Netware file
server w/Groupwise for email and a Windows Terminal Server. Since
then I have been able to implement the following pieces of open source
software.

FreeBSD based Firewall
Squid/SquidGuard/Sarg - Proxy Server
Apache Web server
Sendmail/MimeDefang/ClamAV/SpamAssassin - Email gateway

And very soon we will be migrating off the Netware server to a
Samba/LDAP PDC file server with a W2K member server. Email will also
migrate to a open source email solution and away from Groupwise.

Prior to coming to Raleigh to be a Sys Admin, I was a regional sales
and operations manager for a small auto parts distribution company. I
had a $6.8 million dollars sales territory that covered 5 regional
distribution centers and 13 states. Not bad when the company only had
14 locations and $21 million in sales. And while it may seem that I
wasn't in a technical position as a regional manager, our company was
so small, that I ended up spending about 1/3 of my time with IT/IS
related projects including deploying new servers and point of sales
systems across the company.

Prior to that I worked for about 7 years in a small family run business.

So at this point you may be wondering why I want to be on Trilug's
Steering Committee and why have I bothered telling you so much about
myself. Well some may say the only thing I like talking about more
than computers, is myself :) Actually I have only been involved in
Trilug since last fall, so there is probably alot of you who have
never met me. Because of that I wanted to give you some idea of who I
was as a candidate.

Quite simply: I am passionate about open source! I understand the
struggle of trying to get open source adopted by your employer, and
feel I have been successful in deploying Open Source solutions.

Things I'd like to see happen in Trilug:

1. I'd like to see Trilug grow and be recognized as a model LUG for
Linux. We got several big factors (Redhat, IBM, Duke) in the Triangle
area that should help promote Linux and Trilug in general.

2. I'd like to see Trilug's resources and services expand, so that
more opportunities can be found for it's members. These include
continued training courses and installfests, so that members are more
equipped to be experts in open source. More opportunities for
businesses to want to be involved in Linux so that more job
opportunities are available to the membership.

With greater member knowledge and greater LUG exposure, I feel that we
would be in a better position to get Linux/Open Source more easily
adopted into or work places.

3. I'd like to see Trilug as a resource for over coming the FUD that
Microsoft is so good at convincing corporate America of.

I'm sure I could come up with more reasons, but the ones I already
gave are probably lofty enough. If you need more, then contact me off
list. If you would like more discussion of why I would be a good
candidate or what my positions on things are then contact me as well.

Bottom Line(and I'm a bottom line type of guy): I love Open Source
software and am passionate about it! And while I tend to use FreeBSD
more than Linux, I do have a couple of Linux servers/desktops in use.
And I am just as committed to serving Trilug as I am passionate about
Open Source.

I hope that all members will consider me as a viable candidate, and I
look forward to being elected, so that I can further the cause of
Linux and help improve the Trilug user group in general.

Thank You for time and hopefully your vote.

Sincerely,

Matt Pusateri
