I'm inferring from "radically different from stock" that you perceive
this as a bad thing.  Please note that you are trying to make it do
something that is radically different from what the stock unit was
ever intended to do in the consumer market.

That said, I've only played with Sveasoft and I'm not aware if they've
made "easy to use" client mode a feature.  OpenWRT has several
instances of folks having used it as such, and a fairly responsive
community.

If for price alone, try messing with OpenWRT first.  Besides, that's
the one I'm most curious about... ;-)
