Tanner,

I have used this exact configuration both for myself and for clients,
and find that the SATA cards, by treating each cable in the same way
that IDE treats a cable -- that is, "all drives on a cable interact" --
automatically gives most of the benefits that Joel is recommending.  The
common point is, of course, the PCI bus, which with this architecture,
is not something that we can change.
