I'm using it on FC3.

See http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/ for FC4 and porting support.

I've never worked with it from source, but given the work that the
Planet CCRMA guys have put into it, I don't know why you'd want to.

And do your "sound guys at church" know the difference between FC3 and
FC4.  I'd give them the one that works today...
