Our Debian maintainer is currently in Finland for the next two weeks,
but he may be checking the opennms-install list if you want to post
your question there.
Personally, Debian installs for me "just work" once you get Java
installed, so I haven't seen this problem. The "contrib" solution
above sounds reasonable.
