[TriLUG] Getting Thread ID

I've got a runaway process on a machine that unfortunately I can't
kill because it would affect too many customers. Digging deeper
revealed roughly 10 stale threads (ps -auxmH). I found a few pages
that say I can do kill -9 XYZ.xyz where XYZ=PID and xyz=TID. How do I
get the TID though? Is this not a recommended thing to do?

I have an F5 load balancing to different machines and have taken that
machine out of the loop, but it takes a while for all the connections
to die gracefully so this may end up being a quicker fix.

Any thoughts, suggestions, google search phrases?

Steve
