Sadly, no.  I don't have a 9 pin connector on the laptop and the USB
to serial thing doesn't work under Knoppix.  And, under 3.8, the
Ethernet controller doesn't seem to work either so I'm dead in the
water there.  This would be my preferred route (booting knoppix),
though.
