[TriLUG] LSIFC929X causing kernel-smp to hang

I've installed redhat AS 3 u3 on an IBM xSeries 346 with a LSIFC929X
adapter. The server hangs when I tried to boot to the multi-processor
kernel. The single processor kernel boots up and sees the LUNS on the SAN
without problem. The mptlinux driver version is 2.05.16. This problem never
happens to our Dell 2650 servers (> 20 of them) running exactly same OS
version, adapter, and mptlinux driver. I am thinking about updating the
mptlinux driver to the latest version (2.06.18) but I want to get some
inputs to see if there are catchas that I might have missed.
