[TriLUG] dvi output on a docked t42p

i just got an 1600x1200 external LCD monitor, hooked it up to my 
thinkpad t42p minidock.  works fine in text mode but as soon as X starts 
(ubuntu breezy) the display goes blank.  fn-f7 does nothing.  vga works 
fine, but i'm assuming that dvi would look better :)  apparently i'm not 
the only one experiencing this problem, see the comments at the end of

any of the IBMers on the list have a solution?  hopefully matt lavigne 
is reading the list today :)
