The system logs are a good place to start.  You may also be able to use
SMART (smartmontools in Debian). The home page is here:

Gang:

I am doing a migration of OpenNMS for a company in the UK, remotely  
via ssh.

They have a very large Postgres database. It seems to import just  
fine, but then when I try to do something like a vacuum:

[root at localhost bin]# sudo -u postgres vacuumdb opennms
vacuumdb: vacuuming of database "opennms" failed: ERROR:  invalid  
page header in block 5074 of relation "events_nodeid_idx"

This seems to point to a disk error, from what I can find in Google.

What are good tools I can use to troubleshoot this? It's Fedora Core  
for on i686.
