[TriLUG] Uh-oh: hardware question: IBM VRM

Andrew,
Go to www.ibm.com and search for "cog.pdf". This is the "Configuration
and Options Guide". It will have your x226 listed and it's options and
part numbers. When looking up part numbers on an IBM product, use the
"FRU" number (Field Replaceable Unit). Please note, the options listed
in the cog.pdf are the only "supported" options. If you purchase an
outside product or a speed that is not listed, there is no guarantee it
will work.

As for the VRM's, I believe they come WITH the processor when purchased
through IBM, you'll need to double check. I don't know if there is a
channel outside of IBM to get these. I believe these are specific to
your machine. The only way I know of for you to add a 2nd processor is
to order a processor with VRM through IBM. FYI the PN you want to order
is the "Options" number. The one for your CPU from IBM is 13N0671 as per
the cog.pdf.
