Thank you for the thoughts. Unfortunately, this is long before ( well,
at least before ) the "text" would be recognized. It turns out that
this is an indication that the kernel is incompatible with the CPU in
this machine. Even though the boot process is successfull, the kernel
doesn't like this CPU and stops at the "Uncompressing Linux..."
point.
