it's originally slackware based, but mostly I just install 
from sources.

I gave up on trying to do this when the NPTL code first came 
out, not realising (until my lunchtime walk, after I my 
first posting) that I was building with 2.4.x kernel 
sources, thus giving me the "__thread" undefined error in 
building glibc

Since I have 2.6 running now, I've got past that error (and 
am getting other errors) in the glibc build.

So there's some progress, but untill I get to the end, I 
won't know if I've succeeded.
